General Information About Imperial County / El Centro
Imperial County is a region at the tip of Southern California bordering Arizona and Mexico that specializes in agriculture. It is a hot and arid desert with low average rainfall. Water is supplied to the region by the Colorado River via the all American Canal.
Imperial is the winter home for the Blue Angels, historically their season opening show is held at NAF El Centro in March each year. Imperial is also known for some unique finds including but not limited to Salvation Mountain (which is artificial), the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park which is the largest state park in California. A must see when visiting is the Sonny Bono Salton Sea National Wildlife refuge. Situated along the Pacific Flyway, the refuge is the only one of its kind, located 227 feet below sea level. It has been recorded to have posted the highest temperatures in the nation.
