Mokulele Airlines & Angel Flight team up to fly help people in need

Mokulele Airlines and volunteer pilot organization Angel Flight West have teamed up to provide air transportation for residents of Hawai’i who need to travel to access health care treatment.

For more than thirty years, Angel Flight West (AFW) has been arranging non-emergency air transportation so people in need can get to their health care appointments and other essential services, all at no cost to qualified passengers. AFW serves 11 Mainland states, plus Hawai’i and Alaska. Volunteer pilots in private aircraft donate their time and all expenses to provide access to medical care and other essential services.

But sometimes a pilot isn’t available, or the weather keeps small aircraft from taking to the skies. With Mokulele Airlines’ help, AFW will now be able to say ‘yes’ to more people who need to travel between the islands.

“We’re thrilled with our partnership with Mokulele Airlines,” says Josh Olson, Angel Flight West’s executive director. “There’s an urgent need for these transportation services, as most of the state’s major medical facilities are on Oahu. Because of Mokulele’s generosity, we’ll now have the resources to serve Hawaiians who couldn’t otherwise reasonably access health and hope.”

Mokulele offers 120 or more daily flights from Honolulu International and Kalaeloa (Barbers Point) airports on O‘ahu; Kapalua, Kahului, and Hana airports on Maui; Kona, and Waimea airports on the Big Island, as well as Ho‘olehua and Kalaupapa airports on Mokoka‘i.

“Partnering with Angel Flight was a no brainer” said Darryl Grace, General Manager of Mokulele Airlines. “Having grown up in Hawai’i I’m very familiar with the needs of Kama’aina who have to fly to O’ahu to get medical attention, and I am glad that Mokulele Airlines, a locally owned and operated company, can do our part to help the community.”

About Mokulele Airlines
The family owned and operated airline has quadrupled the daily flights since 2011 when Mokulele was purchased the airline from Mesa Airlines. Mokulele has been in business since 1994 and is based at the Kona International Airport with about 250 employees. Mokulele operates 11 new 9-passenger TurboProp Cessna Grand Caravans and offers 120 to 150 daily flights between 9 airports on O‘ahu, Maui, Mokoka‘i, and Hawai‘i. About Angel Flight West
Since its founding in 1983, Angel Flight West has successfully completed over 60,000 missions that comprise more than 336,000 hours and 16.5 million miles flown – the equivalent of $41.1 million in flight costs donated by AFW’s volunteer pilots and commercial airline partners.

In addition to medical flights, AFW arranges transportation for other humanitarian purposes — children attending specialty camps such as those for young cancer patients, military personnel taking part in therapeutic programs offered by the Wounded Warrior Project and other veterans’ organizations; families escaping domestic violence; and prospective parents hoping to adopt a child.
