Surf Air Mobility recently joined aviation leaders at the launch of the FAA’s Project Nexus in Fort Worth, Texas, an initiative focused on preparing for the next generation of aircraft and determining how new technologies can safely become part of everyday air travel.

For our guests, employees, and communities, this is about much more than new aircraft. It is about exploring how the future of aviation can make regional air travel more reliable, efficient, sustainable, and connected.

Bringing Real-World Airline Experience to the Conversation

Project Nexus brings together the FAA and some of the leading companies developing electric vertical takeoff and landing, or eVTOL, aircraft, including BETA Technologies, Joby Aviation, and Archer Aviation.

Surf Air Mobility brings something different to the table: the experience of operating scheduled passenger flights every day.

Through Southern Airways Express and Mokulele Airlines, we understand what it takes to connect smaller communities, operate frequent scheduled service, work with local airports, and safely carry guests where they need to go.

That real-world experience is important as the aviation industry considers how new aircraft technologies can move beyond testing and become part of everyday transportation.

Hawaiʻi Is Already Helping Lead the Way

Our Mokulele communities have already had a front-row seat to this work.

Beginning in June 2026, Surf Air Mobility participated in demonstration flights in Hawaiʻi using BETA Technologies’ ALIA electric aircraft.

Hawaiʻi provides a unique environment for exploring the future of electric aviation. Short distances between islands and the importance of frequent interisland transportation make the state a natural place to demonstrate what next-generation aircraft could someday offer.

Mokulele currently operates approximately 112 daily flights across Hawaiʻi, giving Surf Air Mobility valuable experience operating the kind of short-haul network where electric aircraft may eventually have the greatest impact.

Most importantly, this work is happening alongside the communities we are honored to serve.
